Internships enable students to hone acquired classroom skills and explore career opportunities in the retail sector. Students apply merchandising and visual merchandising skills in a variety of professional environments at the retail, trade, and manufacturing level.
Students prepare for the internship experience by taking the Pre-Internship Seminar class during the fall semester of the third year. The internship is completed the following summer at a location and firm selected by the student and approved by the faculty advisor. The student must register for the two-credit Internship course, DSNI 393, and must complete a minimum of 200 hours of work on-site in the field.
Radford University merchandising students have completed internships at major retailers, market centers, and manufacturers in Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, New York, Georgia, and the District of Columbia.
