Academic advising is a process that allows you, the student, to meet one-on-one with a faculty or staff member who is highly knowledgeable about degree programs offered by the university. The advising system in the Department of Interior Design and Fashion is a team effort that includes you, your advisor, and the advising center in the College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA).

Advising for a Design student's first semester at RU is coordinated by the college's advising center under the direction of the CVPA Advising Coordinator, Donna Shelton Oliver. During the first few weeks of each semester all new Design majors are paired with a faculty member in the department who will serve as the student's academic advisor. Current advisor/advisee pairings are posted on hallway bulletin boards in McGuffey Hall. More information about advising and advisors is available in the departmental office in Room 211 McGuffey Hall.

The student's academic advisor can provide guidance on all matters related to course requirements of the selected degree option within the Design major.   The CVPA Advising Coordinator can provide assistance on the General Education program, registration, schedule changes, and graduation progress checks. Ultimately, however, it is the student himself/herself who bears the responsibility for meeting all stated requirements for a degree in ID&F.   Option Sheets and Four-Year Plans for each option are available online.
